is visiting us early this year. Unless, that is, you live in KC, in which case it might as well still be December, with all that snow. Anyhow, in honor of the warm weather, i’ve found my new pre-summer summer banger. If you’re riding your bike or the bus, just close your eyes and pretend your in the Ay rollin on 24’s in a 64.

Here’s two new mixes from some of the doodoobreaks fave dj’s, just in time for those spring weekends spent boom boxin it at the park.
Actually, I’m not sure how old this Krames “Long Horns, Thick Lines” mix is, but it’s my new favorite sheeeet. Mostly chopped and screwed, it’s perfect for those night of brown bagging it between club spots. Highlights include my Lil’ Flips “Time After Time” and a triumphant ass ending with Geto Boys “Yes Yes All”… Stock up on the robo.
Krames – Long Horns, Thick Lines
Pretty Titty’s “Shilo presents: We Make It Good Mix Series Vol 1” is officially hot of the presses. I haven’t had a chance to to go through it with a fine toof comb yet, but the tracklisting is gametight, and everything Titty mixes is always spot on.
So someone’s been bugging me to post up some of the new Mazdaratti stuff I’ve been working on with Dj Design (JeffJank, I’m looking at you). And by working on, I mean I sit in the chair and drink beer, and occasionally yell Devo lyrics, while Design mans the computer stuff. Hey, it’s an important job, too… I have sent this stuff out to a couple of friends, and tried hitting up some of the heavywieght blogs, but apparently all their inboxes are too full of Justice or MSTRKRFT remixes to shed some light on the new kids. I keed, I keed. Enjoy… All three of you.
Mazdaratti – Gates of Steel (Devo Cover)
R Kelly – Feelin on Your Booty (Mazdaratti Hood Hop Rmx)
We’ll have some more in store soon, and a mixtape as well, so stay tuned.
Sitting in the Look Records studio, searching for songs to go on the new Mazdaratti mixtape, and this one’s fucking stuck in my head… Seiji’s remix of Badu’s “Honey”. Unfortunately, its a bit too smooth and not nearly gangster enough for the final cut, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be on constant rotation in the headphones… or the bedroom for that matter (wink-wink, nod-nod, know what I mean?)

Not much to report, other than I’m currently kicking it in the Look studio with the aforementioned Grip Grand. Discussing everything under the sun: film score, the lack of money in being an ACTUAL artist, and the finer points of the “Canibus Syndrome“. Unfamiliar? Uninitiated? Well, here’s Grip’s explanation:
So what is the Canibus Syndrome? Well, when a rapper’s first verse, the one that really brought them notoriety, is so good that every verse thereafter is compared (unfavorably) to that one perfect, shining moment of lyrical glory…that’s the Canibus Syndrome (the same phenomenon, with respect to debut LP’s, might be termed “The Illmatic Syndrome”).”
Real talk. There’s so much other good shit on his crew’s blog, www.routinefly.com, so check that shit out. Heres a funny ass videos from one of their boys, Ashkon… Rumor has it dude did some shit with F.A.B…. Intriguing to say the least.
And for the truly brave and lionhearted… Those who live theirs by the golden fist, the iron rule… you are the Champions of My Heart. You remain of the upmost awesomeness.

For those of you who don’t know (thats probably quite a few), Grip Grand is on of the greatest rappers never heard. I could extoll the virtues of Young Grip ad naseum, as I’ve been listening to his shit for ages now. I’ll save you the long winded descriptions of his rap prowess, instead opting to encourage you to come out and experience it for yourself. On Thursday, March 20th, he’ll be joined by his Rec League cronies for a show at Milk. Dj Design at Tap10 will be manning the ass shaking generators turntables. Better be there if you know what’s best for your reputation in being up on good ass music.

Just to give you a teaser, heres a funny ass video the crew recently did. They sampled the Will Farrell song from Semi Pro, and correspondingly chopped up footage from the movie.

The last couple of weeks have been crammed solid full of going out, including a marathon session of DJing last weekend with Mazdaratti (stay tuned for some new songs we’re working on), and it seems that this is the quiet before the impending storm of shows coming up… Um , hello… JUSTICE anyone? So I thought I’d take a little time to show some new gems recently dropped off by brown short-shorts dude…
It’s all about bragging, so let me start off with the hottest sh*t: The PUMAxBodega Spy II Hi’s, which are based on the famous Spy vs. Spy cartoons from MAD Magazine. You seen em all over the blogs, so this ain’t breaking news… Except for the fact that I’m holding them in my sweaty death-grip. I’m pretty much left speechless by the amount of detailing that went into these. Highlights include:
- Morse code perforations on toebox and straps
- Hidden pockets in tongues , include small secret code envelopes
- Spy v. Spy footbeds, with bullethole perforations.
- Extra set of Bodega branded fatlaces
- Bodega FOT
I could go on and on, but there’s so many cool details to list. And for those that have followed the release, there was also a friends and family colorway released (cool grey), of which was rumored only 45 pair were made. Guess who has a pair laying next to his bed? Enough talk, check the photos:

And I didn’t show them a couple weeks back, but I’ll crack em out now… The Shoebiz II (Dinostore) California. I must admit, I used to put in my time at behind the counter at this store, so I’m probably a bit less objective on the outcome of these.
I’ve never been a giant California fan, but, none-the-less, have had numerous pairs . This time around, PUMA made some great modifications to bring the model up to date. It features a higher outsole in the mid and squarer toebox, making them look not-so-squatty. They feature Haight/ Ashbury on the nametag, as well as other cool Shoebiz iconography, including a SF skyline/dino footbead, dino tongue tag, and MUNI bus FOT. Say what you will about the colorway, but if your from The City, you gotta rep your set. PUMA also made another Cali for LA old timers, Sportie LA, which I found somewhat less appealing. Only 150 pairs of each were made.

Alrighty, then… Thats it for now. Got some pictures of the Lights Down Low 2 Year Anniversary Party up on the flickr roll, and have some from the MSTRKRFT show on the way. Keep the top down…

The hangovers shan’t be to hard to deal with (and certainly not laying around watching Golf all day)… It’ll be a small price to pay for the lineup we have going this weekend.
First, on Friday, my blasthaus family is bringing Wale to Mighty, as part of Electro Pop, which is an arm of the larger NoisePop festival here in The City. Catchdubs and Trackademics open up, so expect plenty of thizz eulogies from the former, and tourettes-like, profanity laced remixes from the latter. A little something for everyone, no? I don’t care what you say about the club, the system’s boomin’, and I know a bartender or two, so the Budweiser Select should be flowing like Niagara.

If you haven’t checked his crazy go-go tinged steez, here’s the track (new to me)
from the fine kids over at Find a Soul for Sale. Feel it? Tickets are still available here.
Then on Saturday, again at Mighty, again from blasthaus (with some help from PUMA), again part of Electro Pop, we gots none other than MSTRKRFT. Opening up will be steady blog grinders LA Riots and Lazaro Casonova. Anyone who saw they’re show here in SF last Haloween, knows to expect skinny pants by the tons, scantily clad (practically naked) backup dancers in gold Jason masks, and Crown Royal chugged like it was last day of high school. Oh, and ringing ears for days.

I’ll forgo posting a track, because if you haven’t heard them by now, there’s something deeply lacking in your musical taste. Shit’s sold out like Tickle Me Elmo’s on Black Friday, but you could still try here.
See me out, buy me a drink.

Rolling along.. Eeew, two posts in a week. Like the Beatnuts said, “Watch out now”.
Couple of great events happening this week. First, on Thursday, Design and I are pullin out a special Mazdaratti set at Shane King’s “Night Class” party at Madrone. It’ll be a throwback to the grand ol’ pre-millenium days, with a Neptunes vs. Timbaland throwdown. I remember when people were decidedly anti Timmy and Tunes, but as with everything, genius takes time to be recognized (just ask Isaac Newton). Should be fun, Madrone is ALWAYS poppin on Thursdays, this will be no different. Free for all, drink specials all night.

Friday will be banankers, too… If your hitting multiple spots, start at Space Gallery, for Dave Paul’s eponimous “Collector” show. This show features a giant collection of original hip-hop album cover art, and it’s like walking down memory lane… If memory lane were was a mom and pop record shop in an alley in the Bronx, circa ‘93.
Then shift gears completely and head down to the land of tight jeans, fixies, and smack addicts that is 222 Club. Sleazemore and Rchrd OH! are celebrating their second year of the infamous “Lights Down Low” party. They knocked this one out the fucking park, as they’ve brought out the Mad Decent tour with DJ Blaqstarr and Dave Nada straight from Murdermore, to crank out some B-More nuttiness for the 50 or so hot ass girls that can cram into the place. I’ll put $20 dollars down that we hear this “Sweet Assed Child O’ Mine” G’N effin R remix (via PalmsOut). And if no one takes that bet, $20 to the fucker that sells out and plays the shit. As you may be able to tell, I have a love hate relationship with the track. Check the deets below:

I’m sure there’s big things poppin on Saturday, but after both these parties, I’ma need me rest. Plus, “Be Kind Rewind” comes out this weekend. I don’t care what you think of Mighty Mos’s acting chops, this shit is gonna be great. Like Bob Eucker, “I must be in the front rooow”.
